Your experienced dentist, Dr. Delwin Hemingway, can restore a tooth affected by significant decay or damage in just one visit to our office with same-day dental crowns. A dental crown can restore the original size, shape, and color of a damaged tooth, as well as being used to protect a tooth after root canal therapy. With CAD/CAM same-day dental crowns, your tooth will be 110% as strong as your natural teeth!
The E.Max crown is a type of all-ceramic crown which is preferred for its longer lasting, easthetic qualities. This crown and the Zirconia crown are worn due to their highly attractive appearance which ensures that they compliment the rest of your teeth. It is considered a good option for damaged, stained or poor quality teeth.
E.Max crowns are a type of all-ceramic crown with an appealing translucent colour which is combined with extra strength and durability. This crown is made from a single block of lithium disilicate ceramic. This is a top grade material which has been harvested for its toughness, durability and opaque qualities and it is considered a breakthrough in dental crown technology. You get a glass ceramic crown which is tough and enduring but delicate in apperance. E.Max crowns have a transparent colour and lifelike shape ensuring that they are unlikely to be noticed amongst your own natural teeth. There is no metal alloy base with this crown which means no unsightly grey line around the gum line. They are strong, long lasting and unlikely to crack or fracture as compared to many other types of crowns.

When the pulp layer of a tooth becomes infected, it is necessary to remove the infection with root canal therapy. It is a generally comfortable procedure that saves your tooth and gives you back your healthy smile.
We start the procedure by numbing the area completely to keep you comfortable. We may also place a rubber dam around the infected tooth to protect your mouth and ensure that nothing falls to the back of your throat while we work. To get at the infected pulp, we make an opening through the top of the tooth, down into the pulp chamber. We use a tiny instrument called a dental file to carefully clean out the infected tissue and shape the root canals to receive a filling material. To make sure that all of the infected pulp is removed, we may take x-rays or use other instruments. Finally, we begin the steps necessary to restore the tooth. In most cases, we recommend placing a crown to protect and strengthen your tooth. If the tooth is severely broken down, it may be necessary to start by building up the tooth with a post and core. Root canal therapy saves your tooth, prevents the spread of infection, and helps you maintain the health of your mouth.
Endodontics is a special branch of dentistry that deals with treating dental diseases of the tissue, blood vessels, and nerves of the teeth. Our dentist, Dr. Hemingway, has received advanced post-graduate training in dental endodontics to treat you with the best possible care. The most common endodontic treatment is root canal therapy, which can restore teeth that are severely infected or damaged. To begin your journey to optimal oral health, we welcome you to contact our knowledgeable dental team at our Salinas, California dental office. At NEXT Dentistry, we put our patients first.
Many people don’t know how important it is to keep their gums healthy. There are direct relationships between the health of your gums and the health of other parts of your body. Our dentists encourage regular cleanings at our Salinas dental office to keep your teeth and gums in tiptop condition and help preserve your overall health. However, if you find you need more comprehensive gum care, we offer periodontal therapy and laser therapy to destroy active bacteria and re-grow healthy bone to keep your teeth secure. Preserving your teeth in as natural a state as possible is our primary goal.
The first dental laser was approved for use in 1976. Since then, laser technology has greatly improved many dental procedures. Treating the soft areas in your mouth is a lot more comfortable thanks to lasers.
A laser uses energized light to precisely remove soft tissue. The light beam simultaneously sculpts and cauterizes the area. That means there is lettle to no bleeding, making your healing time faster. The laser beam sterilizes the tissue, reducing the chance of infection. The laser targets just the area to be treated, leaving surrounding areas untouched. Because lasers work on a cellular level, the procedure is usually painless. Lasers are quiet, only making a low hum and occasional beep. The FDA has approved soft tissue lasers for use on everyone.
When a tooth is missing, a three-unit bridge can be a good choice for replacing it. In a three-unit bridge, an artificial tooth is connected on each end to crowns. The crowns are placed over the neighboring teeth to hold the bridge in place.
We use the handpiece to remove any decay and shape the teeth that will support the bridge. Then we take an impression of your teeth. A model of your mouth is made from this impression, and then the lab uses the model to create a bridge that precisely fits your teeth and bite. In the meantime, we often place a temporary bridge. On your next visit, we remove the temporary bridge and begin a series of steps to confirm the fit of your new bridge. We try in the final bridge and check the fit and your bite. When everything is right, we cement or bond the bridge in place.
Losing a single tooth can have a major impact on your dental health and personal appearance. A non-removable porcelain bridge can restore your teeth to normal function by replacing missing teeth. A dental bridge will improve the entire health of your mouth by keeping the adjacent teeth in position and can help maintain the structure of your face and jaw. Our Salinas dentist at NEXT Dentistry will help you determine whether a porcelain bridge is the right choice for restoring your smile.
Many people feel anxious when it is time to visit the dentist. If you are one of them, consider sedation dentistry for your next trip to our Salinas, California dental office. It will also help remove anxiety you might have from previous unpleasant treatments, or just allow a totally relaxing and stress-free dental visit.
With the help of a gentle, effective medication, you can “snooze” through your appointment while remaining responsive enough to answer questions yet have no memory of the visit the next day! Throughout the visit our team monitors the patient’s blood pressure, heart rate and oxygenation levels.
Dr. Delwin Hemingway completed his post-doctoral training with the Doctors for Oral Conscious Sedation organization, is certified to provide Oral Concious Sedation and has been providing sedation dentistry for his patients since 2008.

In the past, teeth were most commonly repaired with amalgam (silver) fillings or gold restorations. Thanks to advances in modern dental materials and techniques, teeth can be restored with a more esthetic and natural appearance. There are different types of cosmetic fillings currently available. Your experienced dentist will decide the type needed based on the location of the tooth and the amount of tooth structure that needs to be repaired. The tooth-colored filling materials used at NEXT Dentistry are beautiful in appearance, stronger than silver fillings, and can be completed in a single visit to our Salinas, California dental office.
When a tooth has a cavity or you need to replace a worn filling, a natural-looking white restoration can be a beautiful choice. White fillings have several advantages over silver fillings:
- They are bonded to your tooth, making it stronger than if we used a silver filling.
- We do not have to remove as much tooth structure as with a silver filling.
- The bonding agent can insulate your tooth from extremes of hot and cold.
- Most white restorations can be done in just one visit.
After we remove the decay, we build layers of the resin directly onto your tooth. We use a special light to bond the resin to the tooth for strength. A larger cavity may require an indirect restoration like an inlay or onlay, which can be completed in our office at one visit using CAD/CAM technology.
